WITN's Teacher of the Week for October 11 is Amy Smith from Hope Middle School in Pitt County.
Smith currently teaches 7th grade math and Pre-Algebra. She began her teaching career in Beaufort County but has been teaching in Pitt County for the past seven years.
Born and raised in Greenville, Smith graduated from ECU with Bachelor's & Master's Degrees in Middle Grades Education.
The person who nominated Mrs. Smith wrote, “She has made a big difference on me in the first 3 weeks!!! This is my first year in Pre-Algebra, and she definitely helped me feel very confident about it. I was never expecting to have an amazing grade in her class, but I have a 92. I definitely don't think it would have happened without her. If I ever have a problem with something, I would definitely go to her because she makes me feel so comfortable. I hope she wins for the AMAZING teacher she is.”
Congratulations, Mrs Smith!
Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. That teacher receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card. To nominate your teacher, email TOTW@witn.com.
