WITN hosts "Pint for a Pint" blood drive Wednesday

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The Red Cross exceed its goal Wednesday morning at the WITN Blood Drive at our Greenville studio.

More than 25 pints of blood were given and donors received a pint of Simply Natural ice cream in return.

The Red Cross says strong donor turnout is important this time of year as donations typically drop during the summer while the demand for blood remains the same.

Blood donor Kaitlin Greene says donating blood has a special meaning to her.

"My sister has had to have several heart surgeries throughout her life, and several of them, obviously she's had to get a lot of blood during the surgeries, so I just try to give blood whenever I can," Greene explains.

You can contact the Red Cross online or at the Greenville office if you'd like to donate.
