GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Tuesday marks World Asthma Day and leaders at Vidant Medical Center are working to raise awareness for the chronic health condition.
The Vidant Pediatric Asthma Program is hosting an event Tuesday to discuss the condition, while also promoting resources available to the community, including a free Asthma Day Camp.
The event, geared toward medical professionals, will also feature keynote speakers, a recognition ceremony, and updates on current activities.
Asthma is the leading chronic condition among children in the U.S. It also affects about 25 million adults across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Here in the east, medical professionals see the highest number of emergency visits related to asthma compared to anywhere else in the state, according to the Center for Health Statistics.
