Lockdown lifted for two Greenville schools after no gunman found

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Two Greenville schools were placed on lockdown after students said they possibly saw an armed man nearby.

Greenville police say both Wintergreen Primary School and Wintergreen Intermediate School were put on lockdown around 12:45 p.m. The all clear was given just before 2:00 p.m.

Lt. Carlton Williams says children reported seeing a man, who was possibly armed with a handgun, on the trail near woods behind the schools.

Police with K-9 searched the area and discovered no gunman. Officers will stay at the schools until students are sent home.

The same thing happened twice two years ago, on September 17th, 2015 and on March 19th, 2015. In both cases nothing was ever found.
