Troopers say dump truck driver dies from medical condition following July 4th accident

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN)- The NC Highway Patrol says that a dump truck driver died from a medical condition following a 3-vehicle wreck on July 4th.

Troopers say that the wreck happened yesterday on Highway 17.

Officials say a pick-up truck driven by Clayton Lupton, 31, of Grantsboro, went left of center while heading north on Highway 17 and struck a southbound dump truck driven by Robert Watson, 52, of New Bern. Also struck was a minivan driven by Jennifer House, 44, of Grimesland.

Troopers say that Watson was taken to the hospital where he died of a medical condition. We're told results of that condition are pending.

Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
