GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina non-profit is working to make sure every child has a present under the tree this year.
"The Great Toy Takeaway" is a 501c3 founded by 8-year-old Bailey Bliven and her mom, Robin Bliven.
This is the duo's 4th year collecting new and gently used toys for kids in need.
Bailey says that she was cleaning out her own toys ahead of Christmas several years ago when she decided she wanted to give her old items to kids in need. She began by collecting toys from her playroom and from her friends, and the project has grown into a full fledged giveway.
Robin Bliven says that last year the group gave away 5,000 toys to about 400 families in need.
Donations are being accepted through December 14th at the following locations: National Guard Armory by PGV Airport, Soundfeed Shoes, Eastern Plumbing, AllState on Red Banks Rd., West Firetower Secure Storage and Ricci Law Firm.
The giveaway is being held at the Armory on December 16 from 10am-2pm. Anyone wishing to pick up a toy can show up. No registration is required.
Bliven says over a hundred volunteers will help organize the giveaway and people have lined up before it starts in years past.
