Teen charged in Greenville shooting

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - A teenager has been charged with a shooting that happened last month in Greenville.

Akyree Collins-Smith, 19, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into occupied property.

Greenville police say 20-year-old Navarro Brown, of Williamston, was hit twice by gunfire as he sitting in the driver's seat of a car.

The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. on October 29th at the intersection of Evans Street and Greenville Boulevard.

Police say a verbal argument began between people in two cars stopped at the light and multiple shots were fired into Brown's vehicle. Three other people in the victim's car were not injured.

Collins-Smith was developed as a suspect thanks to the cooperation from witnesses, according to police.

The teenager remains in jail on a $500,000 secured bond.
