Tarboro police investigating officer-involved shooting

Tarboro - The Tarboro Police Department is trying to find out who shot at one of its officers Saturday.

According to a news release from the department, the shooting happened Saturday night after the officer finished a traffic stop near the intersection of East Avenue and Edmondson Avenue. The release states after the officer let the unidentified vehicle leave, he heard the sound of something hitting his cruiser.

Just before hearing the sound, a call of shots fired was reported in the same area as that of the traffic stop. The officer found his cruiser had been hit by a bullet during an investigation into the shots fired call. He was unharmed.

Further investigation found more shots had been fired, but there was no sign of who fired the shots, so no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tarboro Police Department at 252-641-4247 or 252-641.
