Hundreds of stockings collected, shipped to soldiers overseas

WASHINGTON, NC (WITN) - Hundreds of soldiers who can't make it home for the holidays will get a special treat overseas.

Paul Funeral Home and Crematory hosts its annual Stockings for Soldier's drive every year to support the NCPacks4Patriots organization in Ayden.

This year, the team collected a grand total of 737 stockings for male, female and canine soldiers that will be delivered to people in all five military branches stationed around the world.

Each stocking is filled with toiletries, snacks and food items, recreational items like board games and DVDs and other handy items like LED flashlights, socks, and gloves.

This year's turnout is more than double that of last year's.

A holiday drive to collect 'Stockings for Soldiers' is underway in Eastern Carolina.

NCPacks4Patriots has partnered with Paul Funeral Home & Crematory to provide Christmas stockings for male, female and K9 soliders in all five branches of the U.S. military.

The drive started in October and runs through November 22.

Stockings can be picked up from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory at 900 John Small Avenue in Washington.

Each stocking comes with an information pamphlet and a list of suggested items to be packed into it like toiletries, snacks and food items, recreational items like board games and DVDs and other handy items like LED flashlights, socks, and gloves.

Once filled, the stockings can be returned to the funeral home and NCPacks4Patriots will ship them around the world throughout the entire holiday season.

Last year, the group mailed out 365 stockings for men and women and 40 for canines.
