Bridges to Bogue Banks shut down ahead of Hurricane Florence

CARTERET COUNTY (WITN) - The two bridges to Bogue Banks are shutdown as of 7am Thursday, September 13 ahead of Hurricane Florence.

Bogue Banks includes Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Indian Beach and Pine Knoll Shores. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for each town and visitors and residents were told to leave on Tuesday.

Atlantic Beach police officers and state troopers arrived to shutdown the bridges shortly before 7am and they were promptly closed, after about 15 final vehicles evacuated the island. No one will be allowed back on until further notice.

A curfew also takes effect at 7am Thursday for anyone who has chosen to ride-out the storm at home.

Carteret County officials ask people to visit www.readync.org to find shelter locations, if needed. Multiple out-of-county shelters are already at capacity.
