Smoke on the Water BBQ cook-off and festival takes over Washington Saturday

By  |

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - Featuring some of the best pig cookers from across the state, one local community's annual BBQ contest is underway.

The Smoke on the Water will bring anywhere from 25,000-40,000 people to the Washington waterfront this weekend.

Friday's events revolve around preparation for Saturday's BBQ contest.

Contestants are meeting and will be judged on showmanship before the pigs are delivered to the competitive cookers.

The winners of the BBQ contest will be announced at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, but BBQ sales begin at 10:30 a.m.

You can also enjoy some chili, skydiving demonstrations, arts and crafts, a fire truck pulling contest, live music and much more.

The event also benefits a wide variety of local community initiatives like the Beaufort County Red Cross, the Boys & Girls Club and the Cancer Center, Ruth's House, and the Blind Center.

WITN is a proud sponsor of Smoke on the Water.
