GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) Santa Claus isn't just at the mall these days asking kids if they've been nice. He's been spotted in Greenville outside of stores ringing the bell for the Salvation Army and its Red Kettle drive.
Santa said, "It's definitely a joy to see a smile on a child's face when they see Santa Claus in person."
And a joy for Santa when people drop change into the red kettle, knowing it helps feed the homeless, fund youth programs, assist with rental and electric bills, food boxes and help with medication.
Since last year, the Salvation Army has had to divide funds between its Christmas drive and hurricane relief.
Connie Morris, Major Corps Officer, says, "In fact we were laughing, we were doing Hurricane Matthew help along with doing Christmas work, so it's a little bit quieter today than it was last year."
Funds have been trickling in while the need continues to increase.
