UPDATE: Father of missing Pitt County teen discusses how they found her in Chicago

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) - After more than three weeks, a teen missing fro Pitt County has returned home.

Now her father, who originally spoke with WITN where he was pleading for her safe return, is revealing what they know so far regarding what happened to his daughter.

15-year-old Alaycia "Lacy" Williams left North Pitt High School and disappeared on March 2nd.

Due to a cognitive impairment, a Silver Alert was issued, but her father, Jeffrey Warren did his own detective work.

Since she wasn't allowed to have a cell phone, he didn't know how to reach her.

"Somewhere along the lines, she gained access to one or someone facilitated her getting one, and that's what she's been using the majority of the time while she was away," Warren tells WITN.

He says he discovered she had social media profiles as well and hacked into them, which lead him to clues of where she could be.

"I had actually established contact with her as a fictitious person, she thought she was talking to this fictitious person and revealed her location to me and thought she was meeting me, and instead of meeting me, I sent the law enforcement," the father explains.

Monday morning, Lacy was found at the Chicago O'Hare Airport.

Warren, who co-parents with Lacy's mother, says he has a lot of unanswered questions about who his daughter was with, something he says she's not talking about.

"I think it's still an uncomfortable thing for her at this moment, I'm sure it is as a child," he says.

After what he's been through, he has advice for parents.

"I would tell a parent to never question or feel bad about being intrusive, it's your right, it's your duty to protect them and keep them safe," Warren says.

He says his daughter is in good spirits and doing well, but as far the investigation side of this, he says authorities have leads on who is responsible but he couldn't elaborate due to the ongoing investigation.

It's been three weeks since a 15-year-old with a cognitive impairment disappeared from school.

Her parents are desperately looking for her and answers.

Jeffrey Warren says his daughter disappeared from North Pitt High School on March 2nd around 10:15 a.m.

Alaycia "Lacy" Williams didn't have permission to have a cell phone and somehow she was communicating with someone who picked her up from school.

That is something he says video from the school's outside cameras didn't pick up.

Warren and Alaycia's mother, Keyetta Williams, traveled to Chicago almost two weeks ago when they heard she was spotted there.

Warren returned days ago to seek out more answers here at home, including how she could have just vanished from school without anyone notifying them.

"With her being 15, even if she left willingly, she can't consent to it and none of the proper procedures at the school were followed, let alone being taken out of state," he tells WITN.

The school district says they're handing over any video around the school to the sheriff's office and have cooperated fully.

The sheriff's office has not said anything about where they are in this investigation into her disappearance.

As the search for a local missing 15-year-old continues, members of the community gathered together Wednesday night for a vigil to pray for the family and the girl's safe return.

Alaycia "Lacy" Williams of Bethel has been missing since last Friday, March 2, and according to her family, no one has seen or heard from her since then.

On Wednesday night, in a show of unity and strength, people from across Pitt County came together to pray for her safe return.

"I love you," says Keyetta Williams, Lacy's mother. "I miss you. And I just want you back."

An emotional plea from the teen's mother as dozens of people from all walks of life came together in the New Wynn Chapel in Bethel for the vigil.

"It is one of the hardest things a parent will go through, but I know that after all this the pain is going to make me stronger," she says.

Lacy was last seen at North Pitt High School where is she is a student and on Monday, a statewide Silver Alert was issued in response to her disappearance.

As the investigation continues, they have yet to uncover the girl's whereabouts.

"The only thing I could think was, my child," says Pastor David Moore. "And so it was brought to my attention, and so we thought we could come together and let the mother know she's not going through this alone."

It's that exact reason that made this night important to Lacy's family.

The church, packed with friends, family neighbors, and a large group of concerned community leaders all dedicated to finding the girl, reminded the family they don't have to go through this alone.

"Anytime I can be around people that are giving me positive energy and just making me feel at peace if it's for but a second, I'll take it," the mother tells WITN.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says Lacy Williams does suffer from a cognitive impairment and they say she was last seen wearing a dark green jacket, a white shirt, and black pants.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of Williams, they should immediately call the Pitt County Sheriff's Office at 252-830-4141.
