Rough surf and strong rip currents along the coast from Irma

ATLANTIC BEACH, NC (WITN) The remnants of what was Hurricane Irma continued to kick up the surf and produce strong rip currents along the coast Tuesday.

It rained off and on all day and for the most part that kept the beach pretty empty.

The rough surf is why the National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory until 8:00 Tuesday night. In Atlantic Beach yellow flags were posted. Red flags were posted in Pine Knoll Shores and Emerald Isle to warn beach goers of the rip current risk.

The sun did peek out for just a little bit in the afternoon and some people were walking around and a few fisherman were out, but there weren't any surfers around trying to take advantage of the bigger swells.
