Roadwork causing extended closure for parts of U.S. 17

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Road repairs planned by the state Department of Transportation are leading to some extended road closures in Jacksonville.

Sections of U.S.-17 near the intersections of Drummer Kellum Road and Wolf Swamp Road will close starting Wednesday. The closures are being used to upgrade drainage, re-pave the road and eliminate some left turn lanes.

One lane is expected to remain open in either direction at all times while work is going on. Work on the road is expected to last until June.
