NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - Hurricane Matthew forced the postponement of New Bern's annual MumFest last fall. The festival's annual concert, Backyard Jam, was rescheduled for tonight and got underway around 5:30pm on the South Lawn at Tryon Palace.
Local musician Bryan Mayer kicked things off, followed by up and coming artist Jordan Davis and Platinum-selling artist Eric Paslay.
Just before 8pm, it was announced that the 2017 headliner for MumFest will be Brett Young.
Davis recently signed a record deal and is on a nationwide radio tour promoting his upcoming single called 'Singles You Up' which is set to be released on June 5. Davis hopes to also release a six-song EP at that time.
"To get somebody as talented as Eric in here and he has such an established fan base as it is ... so to be able to play in front of them, to be able to play in front of his fans, is something that's huge for young artists and something that I'm really looking forward to," Davis said.
Paslay, who is on tour, has also written six number one songs for groups like Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts.
"I remember seeing bands when I was a kid and what influenced me to do this and just what influences great memories is usually a field in your hometown with a band playing and everybody just having a good time. So we're thrilled to be a part of it tonight," Paslay said.
Tickets to Backyard Jam cost $21, with VIP tickets available for $55 and Pit Passes for $25.
WITN is a proud sponsor of MumFest and Backyard Jam.
