Parkdale Mills closing Williamston plant

WILLIAMSTON, NC (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina plant is closing, laying off nearly a hundred workers.

Parkdale Mills says it will shut down its Williamston facility on June 10th.

Employees at the Highway 125 plant were told of the closing on Tuesday.

Lee Thomas, Parkdale vice president for human resources, says it was a tough decision because there are so many great people who work there. Thomas says the company is consolidating locations and the Williamston plant will close to lower costs.

The company says 97 workers from the plant, which specializes in yarn production for apparel, will lose their jobs. Those employees have been offered jobs at the company's other 26 plants.

Parkdale bought the Williamston plant in February 2015 from Fruit of the Loom.
