ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Preparing for this wintry mix has been a week-long effort by crews at the Onslow County DOT and engineers say they've got the roads prepared for anything.

The DOT trucks have now used 56,000 gallons of salt brine on primary and bare pavement routes throughout Onslow County.

The focus then turned to filling trucks with some of their 267 tons of salt they have on hand to be used once the precipitation starts, to break up any accumulation that sticks to the roadways.

Meanwhile, Onslow County Fire Marshal Brian Kelly says emergency operations are encouraging people to stay home so response calls can be quicker to those in need.
