NEW INFO: Woman injured in Kinston shooting

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Police are investigating a shooting that injured one woman in Kinston Sunday evening.

Kinston police say they responded to a shots fired call around 8:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of Whitaker Drive.

Before officers arrived, 19-year-old Tyasia Bright was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care for a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. Police say she was later flown to Vidant Medical Center for further treatment.

Officers say three other houses in the area were hit by the bullets, but no one else was injured.

Officers are also currently investigating an unrelated shooting that happened on the 600 block of Barton Avenue in Kinston. Police say gunfire hit one home in the neighborhood, but no one was injured in this shooting.
