Tow truck crash victims were athletes at North Lenoir High School

LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Lenoir County Public Schools says the 15-year-old who died in a tow truck crash would have been a sophomore at North Lenoir High School this upcoming year.

Rylee Miller was the passenger in the tow truck that crashed along Highway 11 Friday afternoon near Ferrell Road, just south of Grifton.

Miller was on the school's baseball team, according to an LCPS spokesperson.

Highway Patrol Troopers say Kenneth Faulkner III, 17, of La Grange, was driving his father's tow truck when it crashed. Faulkner was taken to Vidant Medical Center for treatment.

School officials say Faulkner will be a junior at North Lenoir High School this upcoming year and plays on the school's football team.

Trooper J. F. Rogers says neither teen was wearing a seat belt and both were thrown from the vehicle.

The tow truck went off the right side of the highway and down a small embankment, came back on the road sideways and then overturned, Rogers said.

According to the Highway Patrol, charges are pending against Faulkner.
