KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Officials are investigating an overnight fire that destroyed an abandoned shop on Highway 55 in Kinston.
Sand Hill Fire Marshal David Jones says the fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Jones told WITN that they believe the cause of the fire is suspicious after a neighbor told officials he heard voices coming from the shop and saw a car drive off minutes before the building went up in flames.
Officials are continuing the investigation Friday morning and have reached out to the property owner, who lives in Craven County.
Wyse Fork and Hugo Fire Departments were also on scene.
Officials say it took crews about 20 minutes to put out the fire. No injuries were reported.
