My name is Shanicia Young and I am currently a senior at the Northeast Regional School of Biotechnology and Agriscience pursuing both a high school diploma and an associate’s in arts. As a member of the inaugural class, I have played an important role in helping to create and grow both the school chapter FFA and student government where I currently act as class president. My devotion to academics and future success has propelled me to the top of my class and I am looking forward to representing NERSBA as its first valedictorian. As one of the first ten graduates of the school I hope to show other students that obstacles and limitations do not dictate who we become or what we are capable of, even in resource deficient areas such as rural communities in eastern North Carolina.
In the fall, I will be enrolling at Campbell University with sixty college credits toward a bachelor’s degree in political science. After completing my undergraduate studies, my goal is to attend Campbell University’s Law School and one day be seen as a pillar in the legal profession. It is important to me that my success extends beyond the courtroom and overflows into the community in the form of outreach and empowerment.
Being from a small town and experiencing first-hand the impact of one person’s passion and commitment to the community, my faith in humanity has been restored while also inspiring me to do the same.
