RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN)- There's a new director at the helm of several prisons here in the east including two that saw employees killed.
Larry Dail, 64, has been named the Eastern Region director for Prisons. Dail was most recently the Craven Correctional Institution Administrator.
Dail, who has spent 35 years with the state in prisons, is replacing Annie Harvey, who was promoted to the deputy director of Prisons on July 31st of last year.
The new director will oversee 12 prisons: Bertie, Caledonia, Carteret, Craven, Eastern, Greene, Hyde, Maury, Odom, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Tyrrell.
It was at Bertie Correctional Institution in April of 2017 that corrections officer Meggan Callahan was killed officials say by inmate Craig Wissink.
