There's nothing more special than a father seeing his child for the first time, but when it's taken 46 years to happen, the meeting is even more so.
On Thursday, Dennis Reynolds, of New Bern waited at the Pitt-Greenville Airport to meet his daughter, Stephanie Fillmore in person.
She lives in Texas, the place where Reynolds met her mother back in 1970 while stationed in Fort Hood.
Reynolds says he left months later to return to North Carolina, which was before Fillmore's mother could tell Reynolds he was expecting.
Fillmore says for more than 20 years she's been looking for her father and finally found him on Facebook.
They've communicated over the phone for 18 months before meeting Thursday.
Reynolds, who doesn't have any other biological children, described what it's like meeting his daughter. "I have someone in my life now that's part of me, you know what I mean."
"Very special, because it's been a long time," Fillmore says.
Reynolds says the first place he wanted to take his daughter is to New Bern to see her 96-year-old grandmother.
