Mother & 4 children among injured following 2 vehicle wreck in Winterville

WINTERVILLE, NC (WITN)- A two vehicle wreck that sent several to the hospital, including a mother and her 4 children, is under investigation.

Sgt. E. Santiago with Winterville Police says that the wreck happened at the intersection of Old Tar Road and Laurie Ellis Road around 7:30 this morning.

Police are still working to determine what exactly happened, but say that a Ford 500 passenger car with a woman and her 4 children inside rolled over after colliding with a Mistubishi Montero SUV with a husband and wife inside.

Officials say the mother and 4 children as well as the driver of the Montero were taken to Vidant Medical Center. The husband remained at the scene with little to no injury.

Police could not say how serious the injuries were but said that the injured were talking with emergency responders.

Charges are pending in the case.

Winterville Community Fire Department says that first responders were able to quickly extinguish a fire that started on the SUV.

Other units that responded include Winterville EMS, Ayden EMS, Greenville, N.C. Fire & Rescue EMS3 and GFR Medic 1.
