Mobile food pantry expected to reach 100 households per month

BERTIE COUNTY (WITN) - A mobile food pantry starts work in a county where nearly one out of every four people are considered "food insecure."

People in Bertie County needing food assistance will have the help of a new mobile food pantry distribution by Food bank of the Albemarle.

This food pantry will serve the Lewiston-Woodville, Kelford and Roxobel areas. The mobile pantry will arrive at West Bertie County Elementary School on the third Monday of each month, operating from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The distribution will reach an estimated 100 households per month.

A $10,000 grant from The Perdue Foundation is funding the effort, and Perdue will also provide a donation of 20,000 pounds of protein to support the mobile pantry.
