Median household income rose, poverty declined last year

The median household income for Americans increased last year.

According to new data from the Census Bureau, median household income increased by 3.2% in 2016 to $59,039.

It's the second year of increase since 2015's largest increase on records dating back to 1968.

In addition, the number of Americans living in poverty fell to 40.6 million from 43.1 million last year.

The number of people without health insurance also declined by 900,000 to 28.1 million.
