Martin County school opens new math and science building

BEAR GRASS, N.C. (WITN) - A local school held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new science and math building Wednesday morning.

There are four new math classrooms and two new science labs at Bear Grass Charter School. The ribbon cutting was originally delayed due to Hurricane Matthew.

Students and teachers have been using the new facilities for the past few days now and agree the new building was a needed improvement.

"We are in a generation that depends heavily on science, technology and math and this just provides us with the space and the equipment to be able to do the experiments," says Shana Gregory, a science teacher at the school.

"Our old rooms were great as well, but with these new rooms, we really have a lot of space so we can spread out and do partner work," says freshman Jenna Davenport.

Principal Donna Moore says career classes are now being held in the empty math and science classrooms in the old building.
