Marine killed in high speed motorcycle crash

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina Marine has died in a high speed crash involving his motorcycle.

The Highway Patrol says Tyler Armbruster was killed in the 4:20 a.m. Sunday crash on Gum Branch Road just outside of Jacksonville.

They estimate the 20-year-old's motorcycle was going 70 miles per hour when it ran off the road, struck a cable TV box, traveled into several yards, and Armbruster thrown from the bike when it hit a tree. The speed limit on that section of highway is 45 miles per hour, according to troopers.

Troopers say speed was a factor in the crash and that the Marine's family in Florida has been notified.
