ELIZABETH CITY, NC (WITN) - An 18-year-old is behind bars tonight charged in the shooting of a 24-year-old in Elizabeth City.

Elizabeth City Police say they were called to the area of W. Church St. and S. Dyer St. around 8:40pm Saturday for reports of shots fired.

On scene, officers located shell casings near the 300 block of S. Dyer Street.

Officers then learned a gunshot victim had showed up at Sentara Albemarle Hospital with non-life threatening injuries to the lower leg and foot.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Jermaine Armstrong. Armstrong was treated and released from the hospital.

Armstrong told officers 18-year-old Khalil Mabine shot him over some type of child custody dispute at Armstrong's home.

Mabine is being held under a $50,000 bond on one charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.

He's being held at Albemarle District Jail.
