Greenville man charged with murder of former ECU football player

RALEIGH, NC (WITN) - Police have arrested a Greenville man for murder in connection to the shooting death of a former ECU football player.

Domonique Lennon was shot to death in the parking lot of a Bahama Breeze restaurant in Raleigh on June 23.

Raleigh police have charged Ashanti Bennett, 33, of Greenville, with murder.

Since June, four other people have been arrested in connection to the shooting.

Jamar Allen, Wantavius Jackson and Clifton Spellman are all charged with felony conspiracy to commit murder. Stephanie Owens is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

There has been no word on the motive for the shooting since it took place over the summer.

Lennon played football for ECU from 2011-2014.

Bennett has only one previous conviction. Records show he was given probation for a 2008 conviction from Pitt County on a charge of assault by strangulation.
