Man arrested for growing pot on Cape Hatteras National Seashore

OCRACOKE, NC (WITN) An Ocracoke man has been arrested for cultivating marijuana on federal property.

James Garrish III is charged with growing marijuana on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. If convicted he would face a maximum term of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Garrish is also charged with introducing plants into the park ecosystem, littering, trespassing, and defacing and damaging real property. Each of these charges carries up to 6 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
