Local Coast Guard cutter restoring aids in Puerto Rico

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (WITN) - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Elm is in Puerto Rico helping out the U.S. territory battered by Hurricane Maria.

On Wednesday, the crew captured pictures of their mission to restores aids to navigation buoys in San Juan.

The Atlantic Beach-based cutter restored 72 percent of critical aids to navigating after Maria, according to Coast Guard news.

The buoys were damaged when Maria's high winds and waves passed through.
