Kinston insurance agent arrested for embezzling premiums

KINSTON, NC (WITN) - A former Kinston insurance agent is accused of pocketing thousands of dollars in customer premiums.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey says Billie Kennedy was arrested Monday on one felony count of embezzlement by an insurance agent.

Kennedy, who lives in Trenton, is accused of embezzling more than $18,000 in premiums between December 6, 2015 and December 6, 2017, and converting the money for her own use.

The state says the crimes happened in Lenoir County while Kennedy was a licensed insurance agent.

The woman surrendered her property and casualty licenses on December 7th, according to the Department of Insurance.

The 47-year-old Kennedy was given a $15,000 unsecured bond.
