KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - A memorial service is being held in the east Thursday morning to pay tribute to firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Kinston Fire Department is holding a memorial service to pay tribute to 75 fallen firefighters, particularly the 10 firefighters from our state who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2016, including Prentiss 'Jay' Tyndall of Hugo Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Tyndall died in May of 2016 from a brain aneurysm that developed soon after he responded to a fire call.

The service will also honor 20 other firefighters who lost their lives in years prior.

The service starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Station 1 on Vernon Avenue.
