DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - James Sprunt Community College is showing support for its students and staff Monday with a 'Single Stop' food giveaway and community resources fair.
The college is partnering with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC to give away 10-12 pallets of food to students and staff during a resource fair where a number of local programs will be set up to meet with students and staff who may benefit from them.
Agencies that will be available to students include:
-Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina
-Duplin Christian Outreach Ministries
-Eastpointe Behavioral Health
-Duplin County Health Department
-Division of Public Health Oral Health Division
-Vidant Duplin Hospital
-The Spartan's Table
-TRiO Student Support Services
According to James Sprunt Community College, much of Duplin County is known as a food desert where many people have limited access to affordable and nutritious foods. In a press release, the college says that the poverty rate in Duplin county is 27.7% and that 16.1% of all Duplin County residents experience food insecurity.
