JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A man is arrested after a local sheriff's office says he tried to hire someone to assault a pregnant woman to end her pregnancy.

Logan Michael Hughes, 20, of Hilda Road in Jacksonville, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Onslow County Sheriff's Office and is charged with solicitation to assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

Maj. Chris Thomas says Hughes attempted to hire another man to kick a 30-year-old pregnant woman in the stomach to kill her baby.

Thomas says the man solicited refused and then notified the sheriff's office on November 30th. At that point an investigation began.

The deputy says the woman wasn't hurt or injured.

Hughes is out of jail on a $10,000 bond. His first court appearance was Wednesday morning and a judge set his next court date for February 1st.
