Police: Gang member held on $1.5 million bond for Goldsboro shooting

GOLDSBORO, WAYNE COUNTY (WITN) - In Wayne County, Goldsboro police have charged Labar Leslie, Jr., 20, with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police say Leslie is suspected of shooting Octavious Thompson, 23, who is in fair condition, on Slocumb Street on Saturday.

Leslie is a validated gang member, according to police. He was jailed under a $1,505,000 bond.

A man who was shot Saturday afternoon in Goldsboro is expected to recover.

Officers responded to the 900 block of South Slocumb Street in Goldsboro for a shots fired call around 3 p.m.

Arriving in the area, officers saw a vehicle leaving at a high speed and followed it to Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Officers learned one of the passengers in the vehicle, 23-year-old Octavious Thompson of Goldsboro, had been shot following a disturbance on South Slocumb Street.

Thompson was prepped for surgery and transferred to Vidant Medical Center for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries.

The Investigations Bureau is investigating the shooting.
