GREENE COUNTY: Inmate escapes from authorities twice in same day

GREENE COUNTY, NC (WITN) - An inmate from an Eastern Carolina prison has been captured after two different escapes Wednesday morning.

The Department of Public Safety says Daroyl Little, Jr. was last seen around 1:00 a.m. at Greene Correctional Institution and caught nine hours later in Johnston County.

Benson police say they were called to a disturbance at the Raymond Sanders Apartment complex around 1:30 a.m. Officers were unable to find anything, but returned four hours later for a second disturbance.

Police say a man they later learned was Little provided them with false ID, and was able to escape while he was being detained.

Benson police say they later learned Little had just escaped from prison.

Several hours later, an off duty deputy spotted Little running into some woods. Lawmen converged on the area, and heard a security alarm go off at a nearby home. They found Little--still handcuffed from his earlier arrest--hiding in the home's crawl space.

The 23-year-old man was a minimum custody inmate serving a sentence from Harnett County for habitual breaking and entering and felony breaking and entering.

He was scheduled to be released in November 2018.
