Hubert man facing stolen vehicle charges

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Hubert man is behind bars Friday morning, accused of stealing a motorcycle and fleeing from law enforcement.

Onslow County sheriff's deputies say they received reports that a motorcycle was stolen from a home on Sand Ridge Road in Hubert late last month. On Wednesday, the owner of the motorcycle reported that he saw a man riding the stolen bike in that same area.

Deputies say when they tried to pull the bike over, the driver did not stop, but continued through Queens Creek Road to Highway 172 and Bear Creek Road. Deputies evenutally took the driver, Brian Pongratz, 35, into custody.

He's currently being held at the Onslow County Detention Center, charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, injury to personal property, fail to stop for a blue light, reckless driving to endanger, failure to stop at a stop sign, flee to elude arrest and possession of a controlled substance.

Pongratz's bond was set at $13,000.
