A heat advisory will be in effect for all of eastern Carolina from noon until 6 p.m. Friday.
Temperatures in the mid 90s combined with high humidity levels will create heat index values from 102-108° degrees on Friday.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Remember to take special care of your pets as well. Leave them plenty of fresh water and ideally keep them inside. It is also important to remember your car's interior can quickly become dangerously hot. Nothing living should be left in the car.
The heat will stick around through the weekend with more heat advisories likely both Saturday and Sunday.
