Growing Up Fit: Pitt County celebrating public park

PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) - In our October "Growing Up Fit" segment, Pitt County leaders are preparing to celebrate an award given to the County Home Complex.

The complex has been deemed a 2017 Great Places in America Designation as a public space.

The County Home Complex includes: Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation, District Park, Pitt County Animal Services, the Spay Today Clinic, the Eastern Carolina Village and Farm Museum, the Leroy James Farmers’ Market, the Making Pitt Fit Community Garden, the Council on Aging and Greenville Senior Center, the Pitt County Collection and Recycling Center and 2 Wintergreen Schools.

A community celebration is planned for Saturday, October 14th, at the County Home Complex and Alice F. Keene District park, starting at 8am.

There will be activities for the entire family, including a focus on Nutrition booth set up at the Leory James Farmers Market from 8am to 1pm.

The Nutrition and Physical Activity Action team of Pitt Partners for Health and The Pitt County Farm and Food Council’s Nutrition Education Action Circle will team up to share how “Tasty Eating is Always in Season”.

They invite families to come by and learn more about local produce, enjoy some tasty Fall food samples, pick up some new recipes & have some fun with our fruit and veggie toss.

A new nature trail will also open at the County Home Complex on Saturday.
