Greenville medical practice warns of potential layoffs following dispute with Blue Cross

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A Greenville medical practice says it may have to lay off employees after Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina suspended payments.

Carolina East Family Medicine says Blue Cross notified them on October 25th that it was suspending payment to the practice because of "inappropriate" claims that had been filed electronically.

Since then, Carolina East says it began filing paper claims. It says Blue Cross only responded to seven of the 360 claims and denied all of them due to lack of supporting documentation.

The practice says Blue Cross won't meet with them to discuss the situation.

Blue Cross says while it can't comment on this specific case, the insurer says it regularly audits claims as a safeguard to customers. Whenever more information is needed, they may hold payments until those questions are resolved.
