Greenville hosting huge tourism conference

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Hundreds of tourism industry leaders are meeting in eastern North Carolina this week.

The Visit NC 365 conference is underway in Greenville and is the premier travel industry event in North Carolina.

More than 500 tourism industry leaders from all over North Carolina arrived Sunday and are meeting through Tuesday.

The annual event offers professional networking opportunities and presentations about issues like travel trends and legislative impacts on the tourism industry.

This is the first time that Greenville has been chosen to host the statewide convention.

"Besides the micro impact of a good couple hundred thousand dollars into the local economy because of the meeting, the macro impact is really exposing our destination to people from across the state, many of them that haven't been here in a while," says Andrew Schmidt, the director of the Greenville-Pitt County Visitors Bureau.

Regional and national travel publications are on hand as well to offer marketing and publicity opportunities.
