GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Wednesday morning, students at Eastern Elementary School in Greenville had an opportunity to ride the Polar Express.
A hallway and the gym were decorated by staff with reindeer and snowflakes.
The floor had a railroad track on it and students followed the track to the entrance of the gym where they boarded the train.
The students were given a ticket to board the railway.
Once boarded, students sat with their friends at tables and enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies before the book Polar Express was read to them.
Teachers and administrators acted out parts of the book and even Santa made a guest appearance.
The event has been going on for about five years, and every year they add something new.
School officials say because they are a S.T.E.M. school, next year teachers want to have the kids involved in making a new train entrance.
