Greenville 2nd graders appear on Ellen Show

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - A second grade glass made their national television debut thanks to a teacher who has innovative ways to get them to learn,

Michael Bonner's class at South Greenville Elementary first came into the spotlight in January, after he was featured on the show for his extraordinary efforts in the classroom.

This week the entire class went to Los Angeles and was featured for another segment.

DeGeneres and Walmart made a direct donation of $25,000 to South Greenville Elementary and set up a GoFundMe page for the school after the initial segment in January, which has since raised over $80,000.

On Friday's show, Walmart kicked in another $20,000, bringing the total to more than $100,000.

Principal Lakeesha Lynch has said all money raised will go directly into a general fund to be used at the school administration's discretion.

An entire second grade class is traveling across the country today for an all-expenses paid trip to be featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Michael Bonner's class at South Greenville Elementary first came into the spotlight in January, after he was featured on the show for his extraordinary efforts in the classroom.

Now, the entire class has been invited to come and be featured for another segment.

Bonner's second grade class left Greenville on Monday for a week-long, all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles courtesy of the Ellen Show. The class will fly out of RDU this afternoon.

A Pitt County Schools spokesperson says the entire class along with their teacher, and South Greenville Elementary School Principal Lakeesha Lynch will be traveling together.
