NEW INFO: Wayne County power outage restored after car hits utility pole

WAYNE COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Power has been restored and of Wayne Memorial Drive outside of Goldsboro has reopened after a downed power pole was caused by a crash.

The Highway Patrol says Wayne Memorial Drive near Hare Drive was closed in both directions shortly after the 1:15 a.m. wreck.

Duke Energy power crews were cleaning up a utility pole that was knocked down. Troopers say live wires made the area dangerous.

The road north of Goldsboro reopened around 9:00 a.m.

The driver of the car was not transported to the hospital, according to the Highway Patrol.

Duke Energy says 2,286 customers lost power in the area at 1:15 a.m., though the majority of them had their power back by 3:30 a.m.
