GPD detective's wife killed, children injured in Monday Wake County crash

WAKE FOREST, NC (WITN) - The wife of a Greenville police detective was killed, while their three young children were injured in a crash Monday night outside of Wake Forest.

Seven people were in the Hyundai van that troopers say was struck head on by a truck on Highway 98 around 6:00 p.m.

Renee Stokes, wife of Det. William Stokes, was killed. The woman's 13-year-old niece, Angelina Rebollard, also died in the crash.

Stokes' three sons, Seth, Elijah, and Isaac, 3 months, 5 and 10, respectively, were injured in the crash, along with the niece's grandmother and her 10-year-old sister.

"In times like these, it is difficult to know what to say," said GPD spokeswoman Kristen Hunter in a statement. "Our hearts ache for Detective Stokes and his family. Words cannot express the pain they are currently going through. Please continue to pray for their children, extended family, and many friends in this unimaginable time of loss."

Troopers say charges are pending against the other driver.

A gofundme account has been set up to help the family with medical and funeral expenses.
