Fundraiser for local teen fighting rare form of cancer

Luke Haithcock is a fifteen-year-old student at South Central in Winterville and is one of five people worldwide ever diagnosed with a rare type of sarcoma.

Luke is also the son of the pastor of Rose Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Winterville, where a fundraiser to support Luke and his medical expenses is planned for Saturday, May 20.

The church will be serving all-you-can eat pancakes and sausage dinners for a donation of $6. Drinks are included, and take-out is available.

A silent auction is also going on, featuring baskets, mini vacations, local art, photography sessions, gift certificates to local businesses. A raffle for a rifle will also take place.

All of the proceeds from the event go to the Haithcock Family to help cover medical expenses.

The event is Saturday, May 20 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Rose Hill OFWB Church, 6236 County Home road in Winterville.

The Haithcock Family says Luke is currently not able to go to school while he undergoes multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, but his overall prognosis is good.
