Former teacher charged in connection with underage drinking at party

CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A woman who was in her 25th year of teaching in Carteret County resigned before being charged in connection with underage drinking at her home.

Sharon Sharp resigned her position as a 5th grade teacher at Harkers Island Elementary School, three days after Carteret County deputies say she had the party at her home in Gloucester where alcohol was served to five teenagers.

Deputies say the 48-year-old is charged with five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

The party happened on April 15, according to deputies and the school system says she resigned on April 18th.

Carteret County Schools say Sharp started with them in September 1992.

The woman was not arrested, but given a citation by deputies on Thursday for the ten misdemeanor charges.

She has a May 22nd court date in Beaufort.
